Agatha Ruiz de la Prada:
The Queen of Color

Wherever she goes, Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada stands out amongst the crowd; whether it’s the ostentatious quality of her designs or the hot pink bow in her hair she is a designer unlike any other.  And for that we must tip our hats & give her credit where credit is due.

Since her start in 1980 de la Prada began a movement, not just a career- a movement to bring a design agatha ruiz de la prada barbie dollaesthetic of love, humor, & optimism to the world.  Starting with the not so basic dress, Agatha has extrapolated her designs into all facets of the world from textiles, automobiles, childswear, & so much more. One such collaboration can be seen to the right, which depicts Ms. Ruiz del la Prada's limited edition Barbie Doll, wearing the resized version of a look shown in her recent runway show (see our lead photo).

Most recently, the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) launched a new promotional campaign and tourism route, “Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean,” with a fashion show at La Amada Hotel  in Playa Mujeres, Cancun where we caught up with the jet setting designer.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada sat down with us- discussed her ideals, favorite colors, & what she says to naysayers. See the full interview below.

The event also featured Mexico’s Pineda Covalin, David Salomon, Daniel Espinosa & Erika Flores, who all joined together to present the best of their spring-summer collections, using the beauty of Cancun as a backdrop.
