Anna Bonnevier is Numb
What’s the minimum number of pieces required for a modern wardrobe? According to Swedish fashion designer Anna Bonnevier, the number is 8. In her latest venture, Numb, produced & marketed in conjunction with Design House Stockholm, Bonnevier has designed 8 pieces that will take you from a run to the market, to the office, to an art opening, simply by adding or subtracting a layer on the go.
The Numb Collection is 100% Swedish through & through right down to its composition. Bonnevier partnered with Sweden’s last remaining fabric mill to create a 100% Viscose knit fabrication in the highest quality possible. The palette too is minimal with the collection coming in one color: Black. Inspired by architecture & the body’s own natural movements, revealing forms within hidden space, Bonnevier said, “Numb is the body’s first encounter with architecture. I’m a true minimalist and have cut away everything, all that is left around the body is form and fabric this is pleasant to wear.” The fashion line is adapted from angular forms & features handkerchief hems & tunic styling that allow the wearer to layer & adapt the looks to suit their own imaginative aesthetic. This is not by chance. The designer states that she hopes her clients will use the pieces in “experimental ways to increase edginess & versatility.”
Design House Stockholm was founded in 1993 by Anders Färdig and has become to designers what a publishing house is to authors. The company produces useful, functional design products of timeless beauty that incorporates traditional Scandinavian themes, simplicity & natural colors & materials. The Design consortium features more than 60 prominent Scandinavian designers in its portfolio, with the Numb Collection being its first fashion exploration.
What makes the collection even more inspiring is the youthful exuberance from whence it was hewn. The Numb Collection is Anna Bonnevier’s graduation project from Konstfack, the University College of Arts, Crafts & Design in Stockholm. She won numerous awards for the collection & was met with immediate critical & retail support.
