SCAD Style Edition
For years New York City Fashion Schools have been the aspirations of young artisans & fashion designers everywhere. Kids with dreams of becoming the next "it" designer flocked to the U.S. fashion capital as there was no other place even worth being considered; but thanks to the relentless efforts of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) all that has changed. Its continuous rise from a good school to a superior establishment to its current status as one of the true world class educational institutions has brought an entirely new lineup of amazingly talented young designers to the town of
Savannah, Ga. This rise, some would argue, reached a true crescendo when the school very strategically acquired fashion icon Michael Fink as its new Dean of Fashion last year.
This year students were mentored by some of fashion's mostnotable names via its mentorship program, entitled the “SCAD Style Lab”. This year Bryan Bradley of Tuleh, AngelSanchez, Catherine Malandrino & Zac Posen lent their expertise, providing students with a realistic glimpse of working industry standards, offering direction & inspiration & their efforts paid off... view photos here.
2010 graduates were nothing less than superb! With this being the first graduating class under Fink- it
wasimmediately evident the students have more than just talent behind them. This year’s SCADsytle was visual testimony that this charmingly quiet Southern school has arrived as a venerable powerhouse of style & SCAD has become a school to watch. This senior collection showing that rivaled even the most hyped & established designers in both professionalism & aesthetics. The show garnered nearly 5,000 audience members in attendance either in person or online through live Web streaming this year.
