Esquire Introduces Caruso Menswear:
On this summer evening set high above the midtown skyline on the 44th floor of the Hearst Tower, Esquire magazine invited numerous industry buyers & insiders to pay homage to the Italian men's wear line 'Caruso', Umberto Angeloni's latest endeavor. Two years out of his run as Brioni's CEO, Angeloni has nursed his investment & branded the label as the latest in high quality fabrication that is synonymous with Italian men's suiting.
The event that was hosted by Senior Vice President & Publisher of Esquire, Kevin O'Malley, featured original recipes from 1920's Napoli in honor of the man for which Caruso takes its name, Rafaele Caruso. The guest list was intentionally light on press, & instead focused on many of the heavy hitting buyers that were attending men's market week. This preview (which forwent models & didn’t distribute the requisite lookbook) was instead introducing the 'Caruso' name by highlighting the traditions upon which the company was founded, & where Angeloni intends to steer it. The mood was not “trade” in the least, nor preachy, but rather had the feel of an almost private intimate celebration that engaged its guests with a classical approach to hosting — conversation, music & great food in courses.
Caruso as a company has been known for its fastidious attention to detail since 1958 inItaly, where creating a suit is rooted deep in the nation's history. Without reservation, consistently the best suits in the world are
manufactured & designed in Italy where wearing one goes beyond the necessity of work appropriation. With Angeloni taking the reigns of the company, Caruso is promising to become a name that is as well celebrated as Canali, Zegna & of course Brioni. High expectations for the troubled luxury industry; perhaps, but considering the background of Angeloni (who is notoriously ambitious) it is a goal that is seemingly within reach — not to mention he has the support of the top industry publishers & buyers who are willing to support his new investment at full throttle. Caruso could be a significant powerhouse within a short time, & if every suit is a beautiful as the one that Angleoni donned at the event, the company is going to give its competitors a run for their money.
