New York Fashion Week
Spring 2010
Wrap-Up
This season, like every season, was chocked full of trends. After a few shows, the trends on one runway tend to confirm the trends at the next presentation & so forth.
This season we saw a number of trends that literallly jumped off the runways to define the season on Day #1...
Slash Attack
No Wolverine didn’t attack the runways- Slashing & slitting are back! A knee here- a hip there- some cleavage well you know where… This look can be somewhat hard to bare… as my mom would say “you paid for it that way?”, but trust me the end result is killer & will transcend all price points & there is always the DIY option. Rad Hourani & Cynthia Rowley went for two versions of a pant while the ever alluring Max Azria went straight on for the kill.
CUT it OUT
One of the biggest trends hitting the catwalk for spring in the continued homage to the 80’s- Cut outs are everywhere. Showing off some skin isn’t just for low necklines & high hems. Cut Outs ranged from sleeve detailing to ab-tastic dresses. Working these trends were Jill Stuart, Vena Cava, Hervé Léger & Marchesa (this was a floral laser cut out- pictured as feature image).
Natural Menswear
Classic menswear tailoring on woman have been all over the place the last few seasons- hence the boyfriend jean craze & the boyfriend blazer, but now why not fem it up a little with a nude inspired palette. Nothing says sexy like a woman in a double breasted lapel & Isaac Mizrahi, Andy & Debb, & Luca Luca executed it flawlessly.
Moto Gear
Gear up for the hottest jacket this season… the biker. This is a season less addition to add to your wardrobe. The fit is flattering to the body, with some drape to create a lengthening silhouette. Fun & flirty for day or fashion forward & fierce for night the biker jacket can be paired with anything from jeans to a cocktail dress. Play around with color, fabrics & bold pattern linings. Editor picks for this season’s must have staple comes from the collections of Yigal Azrouël, Christian Siriano & Nicole Miller.
