Wrap-Up- Part II
There were too many trends to fit on one report this season, so here's the 2nd & final installment from the New York runways for Spring 2010... See the link at the bottom in case you missed our 1st 4 trends of the season.
It's A Wrap
No matter which way you look at it- the wrap look is always a trend- whether it be the classic by the queenbee herself, Diane von Furstenberg, with bright patterns or the draping of fabrics loosely to the body or tight to form. Donna Karan perfectly executes this in a plush fitting cocktail dress that wraps to accentuate the female form while Thakoon drapes prints over an everyday casual look to make it a great choice for either day or night.
Just Jodphurs?
Last spring was all about the harem & now the latest in tailored pants is a fullness at the top that we call... for lack of a better word... a modified Jodhpur. The silhouette that was once regarded as activewear is changing the way women are outfitting themselves. These comfortable & fashionable wears can be dressed up or down & great with heels or flats. Although, many may be timid of this distinctive pant, Phillip Lim gives us color, Diane von Furstenberg presents bold patterns & Issac Mizrahi represents the casual cool version , with so many options this season there may just be the perfect shape for you!
Kimono Culture
Taking cues from the far East- a number of designers are embracing the Kimono in all shades of white. Georgina Chapman took the theme literal & as a staple in this season's collection for Marchesa. Sashes & over sized front bows added to the ornate designs that translated into some obvious & less obvious looks. Less literal designs came though in Tia Cibani's Posrts 1961 collection- channeling the “natural" beauty of the Japanese rock gardens.
Pants Prints Pants
Don't be afraid to be bold & wear patterns...Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, & Wenlan Chai aren't. They provide a few looks from the wearable to the ostentatious (think blue gravel catsuit) that represent what we are seeing on the runways- having fun with fashion that was previously reserved for "cute" dresses.
