New York Fashion Week:
Day #9

Francisco Costa sure knows how to work fabric beautifully.  I always found that he had a refined sense of aesthetic but I had never realized that his sensibility was so Japanese in its clean, sculptural and timeless way.  His dresses were light as air and looked ideal to wear in a hot, humid New York day.  There was a beautiful coral rinsed silk/cotton single sleeve dress worn with copper chain appliqué ankle strap sandal.  There were several white, crisp dresses such as a white needle puched cotton voile/double faced cotton poplin dress or a white silk chiffon needle punched detail dress and they looked like ethereal sculptures.  The shoes were very interesting, a modern, elegant designer take on the Birkenstock.  They were minimal and did not distract from the clothes.  These clothes are ideal if one plans to travel during the summer months as they look easy to pack and care for.

Ralph Lauren
Skyline Studio

Spring 2010 at Ralph Lauren is about “...the resilient spirit of America.”   He reinterpreted several items such as the weathered jean, the sturdy overall, the jean jacket, the faded blue work shirt and the naïve print of a floral dress in his unique way.  The weathered jean got a make-over and became a stunning faded blue stretch denim beaded pant worn with an indigo striped jacket and a faded blue ombre organdy work shirt.  The sturdy overall becomes a faded blue ombre charmeuse carpenter pant and the work shirt transforms into an elegant metallic blue lame voile shirt gown.  It was American sportswear at its best like only Ralph Lauren knows how to do.
